Call and agreement with us
During the call we go through the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen) requirements for a transport manager, how the assignments work and the pay. If it suits both sides, we sign a consultancy agreement between you and Ekonomico.
Assignments with transport companies
You take assignments with transport companies in your licence types, up to the EU regulation limit of four companies and 50 vehicles for goods and bus. We write the agreement with the client and handle the invoicing. You are registered as transport manager and are paid every month for as long as the assignment runs.

What a transport manager consultant does
The transport manager is the person the Swedish Transport Agency holds responsible for making sure the company's transport operation is run according to the rules. As a consultant, you are registered as transport manager with the client and run the operation together with the owner. In practice, this means:
- Making sure the company's vehicles, drivers and licences meet the requirements
- Following up driving and rest times, tachographs and maintenance
- Being the client's contact with the Swedish Transport Agency on licence matters
- Answering the client's questions about rules, agreements and routines

What you need to take assignments
The requirements for a transport manager come from Regulation (EC) No 1071/2009 and the Commercial Transport Act, and for taxi from the Taxi Traffic Act. The Swedish Transport Agency assesses you when the client registers you as transport manager.
- Passed professional competence A pass in the Swedish Transport Administration's (Trafikverket) exam in professional competence for goods or bus, or in the taxi exams. If you have passed the exam for several types, you can take assignments in all of them.
- Good repute The Swedish Transport Agency checks transport managers against the criminal records register, the Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden) and the Swedish Companies Registration Office (Bolagsverket). Debts with the Enforcement Authority and previous bankruptcies are taken into account, and you must not have been declared unfit to act as transport manager.
- Resident in Sweden The regulation requires the transport manager to be resident in the EU. We only take on consultants resident in Sweden, so that you can visit the client when needed.
- Time to genuinely manage The transport manager must effectively and continuously manage the transport operation. This means you answer the client, follow up and take the role seriously, not just lend your name.

Frequently asked questions about working as a transport manager consultant
Do I need my own company?
No. If you have a company, you invoice us for the assignments. If you do not have a company, we pay the fee as salary. You state what you prefer in your application and can change later.
How much will I be paid?
Pay is per assignment and month and depends on how many assignments you have and how extensive they are. We go through the levels in the call after your application.
How much time does an assignment take?
It varies with the size of the company. A smaller haulage or taxi company usually needs a few hours a month, plus being available by phone and email. Larger clients need more, and then the pay is higher.
What responsibility do I take on as transport manager?
You are responsible for making sure the transport operation is run in line with the rules on licences, vehicles, drivers and driving and rest times. If the company is mismanaged, it can affect your good repute. That is why we choose clients carefully and write clear agreements.
Can I take assignments alongside a job?
Yes, if your employer allows it. For goods and bus, EU Regulation 1071/2009 sets the limit at no more than four companies and 50 vehicles in total for a transport manager engaged under a contract. You decide how many assignments you want below that limit.
I have not passed the exam yet, can I still apply?
Apply once you have passed the exam. In the meantime, you can take the course in professional competence for goods, bus or taxi with our partner YK Kurser.
Can I become transport manager for a taxi company?
Yes. The Taxi Traffic Act designates the CEO or a board member as transport manager, so a taxi assignment usually means a formal role in the client's company or consent from the Swedish Transport Agency. We go through how this is done before you take a taxi assignment.
