Transport Licence
We help you through the entire process, from the knowledge test and capital requirements to a complete application to the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen).
What does a transport licence involve?
Every company that operates commercial transport needs a transport licence from the Transport Agency. This applies whether you transport goods or run a taxi or bus service. The licence shows that the company has the right competence, financial resources and organisation to operate safe and lawful transport. We help you through the entire process, from the knowledge test to an approved application.
The knowledge test: how it works
Before you can apply for a transport licence, the transport manager must pass the knowledge test in professional competence set by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). The test differs depending on the type of licence you are applying for. For goods and bus transport, it consists of two parts, both of which must be passed within one month. For taxi, the test is divided into four parts, which must be passed within six months.
We offer online courses through our partner ykkurser.se for all three types of transport:
Course in professional competence for goods transport: for those starting a haulage or transport company
Course in professional competence for taxi: for those starting a taxi business
Course in professional competence for bus transport: for those starting a bus company
Documentation and application
A complete application requires more than a passed knowledge test. Among other things, you need to prove the company's financial standing, demonstrate good repute and have the right contractual structure in place. For goods and bus transport, you can engage an external transport manager consultant. In that case, an approved consultancy agreement must be attached to the application.
For taxi, the transport manager in a limited company (aktiebolag, AB) is normally the managing director, or an appointed board member if the company has no managing director. The Transport Agency may grant an exemption if there are special reasons. We help you prepare all the documents and make sure the application is complete before it is sent to the Transport Agency.
Ongoing compliance
A transport licence also comes with ongoing requirements. The Transport Agency can check at any time that the company still meets the conditions: financial standing, vehicle maintenance, driving and rest times, and staff requirements. We help you keep your bookkeeping, contracts and contacts with authorities in order so that your licence is not put at risk.
Tailored support for your transport company
Whether you run a haulage business with one lorry, a taxi business with five cars or a bus company with regional scheduled services, we can adapt our advice to your situation. Accounting, legal matters, HR issues and contact with authorities: we make sure you have the right conditions to focus on your business.
Transport licence calculator
Capital requirements and Transport Agency fees based on type of transport and number of vehicles.
How it is calculated: SEK 99 360 for the first vehicle, i.e. EUR 9 000 under EU Regulation 1071/2009 at the 2026 exchange rate.
The capital requirement is not a fee you pay but the amount the company must be able to show it has access to: for goods and bus transport with a certificate from an auditor, for taxi with documentation from the bank. The amounts are based on the Transport Agency's fees and the euro exchange rate for 2026 (SEK 11.04).
