Financial advice for your business

For us, financial advice (sometimes called financial consulting) is about your company's finances: what keeps things going, what makes money and what happens if you hire, invest or borrow. We work from your bookkeeping, so the figures we discuss are your own and not a template.

Budget and forecast

We draw up a budget for the year together with you, with income, costs and profit per month. During the year we compare the actual results with the budget and revise the forecast when something changes, for example a big new customer or a higher rent. That way you can see early on whether the year is heading for a profit or a loss. If you are starting up and need a business plan, see business plan and budget.

Liquidity planning

A company can make a profit and still be short of money in the bank, for example when customers pay long after delivery. In liquidity planning we map out when money actually comes in and goes out: customer payments, supplier invoices, salaries, VAT, taxes and loan repayments. You can see which months will be tight and act in advance, by changing payment terms, postponing a purchase or arranging credit in good time.

Profitability analysis

In the profitability analysis we break down the profit by customer, product, service or department. We work out margins, pricing and what an hour or an order actually costs you. The result is a set of concrete questions to decide on: which prices need to go up, which jobs do not pay their way and where costs can be cut.

Tax planning

We go through how the company's tax is affected by your decisions during the year, for example year-end appropriations and the timing of investments, within the rules. Read more about tax advice.

Salary and dividends

If you own a limited company (aktiebolag, AB), we work out how much you should take out as salary and how much as dividends, based on the company's profit and your own situation. This is done as part of our tax advice, and the basics are covered in our guide to the 3:12 rules.

Financing and bank documentation

According to Verksamt.se, the bank looks at, among other things, you as a business owner, whether the business plan is realistic and detailed, and whether you have help with your finances. For an established company the bank also wants to see the balance sheet, year-end accounts and sometimes your tax return, and the bank needs some form of security for the loan. We prepare the documentation from your bookkeeping, work out what the loan will cost and how the repayments will affect liquidity, and go through it with you before you meet the bank.

Company structure

As the business grows, it becomes more common to consider a holding company, that is, a limited company that owns the shares in the operating company. If a Swedish limited company owns shares in another limited company that is not listed, and the shares are a capital asset, they count as business-related shares under the Income Tax Act (inkomstskattelagen). As a main rule, dividends on business-related shares are not taxable, and the same applies to a capital gain when the shares are sold. Whether such a structure suits you depends on what the money is going to be used for. We go through the pros and cons (see also holding companies and tax), and the restructuring itself is carried out as a company change.

Before investments

If you are buying a machine, a vehicle or premises, we run the numbers on the investment before you decide: what it costs per year with depreciation and interest, how long it takes to pay for itself, whether it is better to buy, rent or lease, and how the payment affects liquidity over the coming months.
