Changing accounting firm

Changing firms often feels like a bigger step than it is. We handle every step of the transition, and you don't even need to speak to your old firm if you'd rather not.

When is it time to change accounting firm?

The most common reasons we hear are slow replies, unclear invoices, bookkeeping that has fallen behind, or a firm that doesn't understand the industry. Sometimes the company has outgrown a firm that suited it when it was small. Whatever the reason, switching is easier than most people think, and the right time is usually now rather than at the turn of the year.

How the switch works

  1. We go through your company. Company type, number of vouchers, employees and the system you use today. You get a fixed price.
  2. You give notice to your old firm. We help you word the notice and check the notice period in your agreement.
  3. We retrieve the history. Accounting files (SIE), general ledger, balance sheet and profit and loss reports, fixed asset register, payroll history and agreements. We contact your old firm if you want us to.
  4. We set up Fortnox. Or take over your existing licence. Opening balances are entered and reconciled.
  5. Your consultant takes over. From the first month you have a named accounting consultant who replies within 24 hours.

What you are entitled to from your old firm

The bookkeeping belongs to your company, not to the firm. Your own material, meaning vouchers and the journal, must always be handed over, regardless of how the working relationship ends. The firm may, however, hold back its own work, such as a year-end closing, until unpaid invoices have been settled. So settle any outstanding debts before the switch so that nothing gets stuck along the way.

In the middle of the financial year?

That's fine. We take over from the start of a month and the old firm closes its periods. The important thing is that VAT periods and employer declarations don't fall through the cracks, and we keep track of that.

No lock-in period with us

We believe customers stay because they are happy. That's why we offer a fixed price with no lock-in period. Should you want to switch again, we'll help with that too.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cost anything to switch to Ekonomico?

No, the transition is included when you become a customer. You only pay the fixed monthly price from the month we take over.

Do I have to speak to my old firm?

You need to terminate the agreement, but we can handle the contact about handing over material if you prefer.

Can you take over my Fortnox account?

Yes. We either take over your existing licence or set up a new account and transfer the history.
